Owning its name to the brick-red volcanic soils of the Dundee Hills, the Red Hills Pinot Noir begins in a site slightly warmer than most in the appellation. Aromatically, the wine offers cocoa, raspberry, black pepper and mocha. There’s a gust of floral elements too, like white flowers and berry blossoms. The palate reminds of Japanese Awayuki strawberries, prized for their delicate, candied qualities. The structure is clean, the color is a vibrant magenta and the mouthfeel, while a bit tight, will uncoil beautifully over the next several months.
